South Korean semiconductor giant SK hynix officially listed on the Nasdaq on July 10, 2026, marking a major step in the memory chipmaker's global expansion strategy.
CEO Kwak Noh-jung said at the listing ceremony that AI-driven demand for HBM (high-bandwidth memory) and DDR5 is surging. He warned that 2027 could see the most severe memory supply shortage on record, with demand outpacing supply through 2030 and beyond.
SK hynix also announced a KRW 100 trillion (about RMB 520 billion) investment in Cheongju, South Korea, including KRW 80 trillion for a new M17 NAND wafer fab and KRW 20 trillion for P&T7 advanced packaging facilities.
Analysts said the Nasdaq listing will improve SK hynix's global visibility and financing capacity, strengthening its position in high-end memory products such as HBM as AI adoption continues to grow.
